Criss Cross Method - How it Works

Criss Cross Method - How it WorksWhen it comes to chemistry, most of us are familiar with the Criss Cross Method. What we don't know, however, is the strength and flexibility of this method. While the Criss Cross Method doesn't refer to anything in particular, it can be attributed to an informal experiment performed by Dr. E. R. Criss. From that point, the method has been implemented and adopted by a lot of research laboratories all over the world. Many students nowadays might not be aware of the method but those who are should be acquainted with it before moving ahead. Students can utilize the Criss Cross Method by basing their experiments on different chemicals and substances that exist today. As mentioned earlier, Criss uses four general terms in describing the relationships between these chemicals and substances. The first term is the single point of contact. The second is the compound. The third term is the double point of concentration and the last is the triple point of concentr ation. In the single point of contact, there is one chemical that is always present. For example, ammonia, ammonia gas, glycerol, glycerin, etc. A similar term is the 'Equilibrium Point'. This term is different from the equilibrium of temperature and pressure, which describes the ideal case of the system. There are many other terms that can describe the same chemical property. These can include the rheological property of viscosity and also the thermal conductivity of the substance. All of these are terms that describe the chemical properties that determine the location of the two chemicals. The compound is exactly what it sounds like. In Criss Cross, these are substances that have the capacity to undergo changes in molecular size, such as water and ammonia. The compounds are actually particles that have a very small amount of volume and they can be found in food items or in the atmosphere. They have specific mass, which means that they possess specific gravitational pull. The third ter m is the double point. This refers to the point at which the concentrations of two substances reach a maximum point. The second point is the triple point where both substances have reached an equilibrium value. The Criss Cross Method can be used to study compounds such as glucose, ethanol, carbon dioxide, glucose polymer, etc. Although these substances have a similar chemical formula, they are usually not solids. They tend to form as mixtures and liquids due to their presence in biological systems.

Learning German Discover the Fabulous History of the German Language

Learning German Discover the Fabulous History of the German Language Learn to Speak German by First Understanding the Origins of the German Language ChaptersThe Foundations of the German LanguageThe Germanic Languages from the 1st to 5th CenturyOld High German (Althochdeutsch) between 750 and 1050Middle High German (Mittelhochdeutsch) from 1050 to 1350Low GermanStandard German (Hochdeutsch)The Weak Influence of Latin on the German LanguageThe Impact of German in AlsaceSprechen Sie Deutsch? With over 100 million speakers, German is one of today’s most important languages. In addition to being the most-spoken language in Europe, it is integral to the European Union. It’s spoken in Austria and Switzerland, too! There are 5 main reasons why it can be difficult to learn German online or face to face.German is made up of diminutives and compound words, which can make it seem like a synthetic language.Just like Latin, German grammar follows strict grammatical rules like declensions which express a word’s function by changing its ending: the nominative, genitive, dative, and accusative.German is a language that needs to be understoo d in its entirety since verbs can be placed at the end of sentences.Nouns can be masculine, feminine, and neuter. This can make learning German tricky if English if your native language since every time you learn a noun, you need to learn which gender it is and every time you learn an adjective, you need to learn multiple versions of it.The German accent can also be tricky when you’re first starting out. However, like English words, the stress is often also at the beginning for  German words. To fully understand its foundations, we need to go all the way back to 1200 years BCE.  However, its solid foundations were laid in the Middle Ages.  Then there’s High German and Low German. The German language, as we know it today, started being used around European capitals in the 19th century.2 consonant mutations. This is when a phonetic change happens to a consonant and people start pronouncing certain groups of consonants in a different way.The first of these consonant changes took plac e in the 1st century. This is when linguists consider that the Indo-European language being spoken in the area became the Proto-Germanic and Armenian languages. While this may seem like absolutely aeons ago, this is still an important part of the German language's history. Not that type of Gothic! (Source: www.flickr.com)The Germanic language was made up several dialects:Gothic, an East Germanic language, which was spoken by the Goths, Vandals, and the Burgundians. This language hasn’t been spoken since the 4th century.Anglo-Frisian, Germano-Dutch, Low German, Dutch, Flemish, High German, Luxembourgish, Moselle Franconian, and Upper German are part of the West Germanic languages.Icelandic, Norwegian, Faroese, Danish, and Swedish are the North Germanic languages.Nowadays, the Germanic languages include English, German, Dutch, the Frisian and Upper Saxon dialects spoken in the Netherlands and Germany, Luxembourgian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, and Faroese.Afrikaans, which i s spoken in South Africa and Namibia, is also a Germanic language.  Pennsylvania Dutch is a dialect of German spoken in the United States predominately in Amish communities.Old High German (Althochdeutsch) between 750 and 1050The second consonant mutation took place between the 4th and 8th centuries. This led to a phonetic consonant shift across all of Old High German’s vocabulary. The consonant changes in Germanic languages were explained by Grimm’s Law. This is named after Jacob Grimm, the German philologist and one half of the Brothers Grimm who are most famous for their fairy tales like Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel. The linguist Karl Verner later expanded on Grimm's Law and better explained a few of the elements of these consonant shifts. This explanation is called Verner’s Law. It states  that plosive consonants become fricative consonants, thereby changing the pronunciation of a large number of words in the language. While the history of the German language began thousa nds of years ago, the word German wasn't documented until  786.Throughout the Middle Ages, there wasn’t an established writing system for German. This is why we consider Old High German as a collection of all the Germanic dialects including Old West Franconian, Rhine Franconian, and Old Bavarian.Written sources are mainly religious texts although there are texts including magic incantations and the Oaths of Strasbourg.  The first text in High German discovered was Abrograns, a Middle Latin glossary. There is a big gap between Old High German and Middle High German given that Latin was the language of writing in the 10th and 11th centuries. Most of the evidence between 1150 and 1250 in Middle High German is written in a chivalrous style.Middle High German gave rise to Early New High German (Frühneuhochdeutsch) which was used between 1350 and 1650.Low GermanWhile High German was mainly spoken in the south of Germany and considered the language of writing, Schriftsprache  or  Low German was the language of the north of the country. As a language of the working c lasses, Low German was considered to be of a lower register.Low German includes several dialects such as: Low Franconian from the Netherlands and Flanders, Dutch and Frisian which, when taken by the Saxons to Great Britain in the Middle Ages, would later become English.Low German and High German would merge during the Holy Roman Empire before becoming a dialect during the 17th century.Low German didn’t give rise to Middle Low German. In fact, the Old Saxon and Low Saxon spoken in the north of Germany did. This West Germanic language spoken between the 9th and 12th centuries, along with Frisian and Old English, would also contribute to Modern English.Middle Low German was spoken between around 1100 and 1500 along the coasts of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. We know it was written but there isn’t official proof. Middle Low German is the ancestor of Modern Low German.Standard German (Hochdeutsch)Protestantism would lead to Standard German being used in schools and help create a German-speaking population in the north of Germany.Between 1520 and 1535, Martin Luther translated the Old and New Testaments into German (is he one of our top 10 famous Germans?). Until 1850, it was learnt as a foreign language in the south of Germany.Martin Luther translated the Bible into German. (Source: Wikimedia Commons)In the 19th century, German became the language of business par excellence. Due to the reign of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in Central Europe, German was spoken in a number of cities including: Prague, Budapest, Bratislava, Zagreb, and Ljubljana while rural areas continued to speak their local languages. The Brothers Grimm, who are probably more famous for fairy tales like Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel, were also philologists and the creators of the German language's first dictionaries. Between 1852 and 1860, they undertook the Herculean task of cataloguing the German lexicon. However, this task ended up being far bigger than they could have possibly fathomed and was never finished. Were the Brothers Grimm included in our list of greatest German writers? The Weak Influence of Latin on the German LanguageWhile not a Latin language, German was also heavily influenced by Latin like many other languages throughout the rest of Europe. This influence, while not as strong as it would be on languages such as French, Italian, or Spanish, came about from the Roman invasion which brought technological and war vocabulary to the language.Latin’s influence would increase as Christianity spread through the land and monasteries were built. Latin would see its biggest period of influence during the Renaissance. The Impact of German in AlsaceAlsace is a region in the east of France and, through wars and annexation between France and Germany, is home to 3 main languages: French, Alsatian (known as Elsässerditsch), and German.Alsatian is a dialect of High German. During the First and Second World Wars, German was the most common language spoken but followin g World War II, French was the only language allowed as the region was controlled by France.Insert obligatory Alsatian joke here. (Source: Vladislav)For many years, due to France's monolingual policies, the French language was promoted and use of Alsatian has inevitably decreased. However, it is still spoken privately by around 50% of the population of the region meaning that it is spoken at a much higher rate than better known regional languages like Breton, Corsican, or Basque. However, it has struggled to find its place between German and French which are more commonly spoken. With so many interesting things to learn about German, perhaps you'd like to live, work, or study in Germany. How Introverts Can Survive and Enjoy Business Travel - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / How Introverts Can Survive and Enjoy Business Travel - Introvert Whisperer How Introverts Can Survive and Enjoy Business Travel Some people thrive on business travel, while it can be a nightmare for others. Especially when it comes to introverts, a busy work schedule can be challenging enough without adding travel into the mix. However, being an introvert does not mean you can’t do certain things and even enjoy them. It simply means that you need to approach them differently. For instance, airports and airplanes can be very crowded spaces, and even just the thought of driving somewhere unfamiliar is enough to get the heart racing. It is important that you plan for what you need to survive and even make your trip enjoyable. One of the keys is to communicate clearly to your employer how travel makes you feel and what you need to be successful. For air travel specifically, you might need to travel to your destination a day early to acclimate, or fly business class rather than coach to give yourself the space you need (you can even offer to pay for the upgrade yourself if need be). Plan activities for yourself on the trip, and try to get some time alone if possible. Besides communicating well, here are a few simple steps you can take to survive and enjoy business travel as an introvert. Get the Right Gear When it comes to flying, especially a long flight, having the right gear can make all of the difference. If you are traveling across the country or internationally, you will need to be prepared. Frequent business travelers carry a lot of the same items with them every single time, and there are some essentials you simply can’t do without. A neck pillow: It may seem silly, but the pillows they have on the plane are nearly useless, besides the germs they might carry. Get your own travel neck pillow to keep yourself comfortable when you fall asleep. An empty water bottle: No, you can’t bring a full one through security, but an empty one is fine, and many airports have water bottle filling stations at their water fountains. This a good way to stay hydrated, but not too hydrated (airplane bathrooms are often another introvert nightmare). Headphones: Yes, you will need to bring your own entertainment unless you want to pay for movies on the plane, or be stuck watching whatever they are showing. Corded ones are the best, as you don’t need to recharge them (meaning you also don’t need to carry an extra cord). Noise cancelling ones will work best to shut out the airplane world that can be so overwhelming. Backup power supply: This is just in case your laptop, tablet, or phone needs some extra juice while you are on the plane. Sleeping mask/sleep aids: Want to sleep on the flight? You may need a sleep aid, and even a sleeping mask to block out the ambient light, even on a night flight. You may also want a blanket in case you tend to get cold. The more gear you have of your own, the less reliant you are on the airline to provide you with the things you need, or even worse, having to buy them in the airport, which is always expensive. If you travel often for work, have a “go” bag where you keep all of your travel needs in one place. You can then just literally grab it and go. Get Your Mind in the Right Place One of the main obstacles as an introvert is getting your mind right when you are headed into a potentially stressful situation. Anxiety can cause physical symptoms, making your flight and travel even harder to endure. One way to do this is to put your extrovert face on. This is the one introverts use when they have to deal with customers or coworkers. Often your voice gets louder, you will say things you would not normally say, and you’ll also seem more extraverted than you actually are. How to do this varies by person, but often a moment of meditation or even just some deep breathing will help. Also, consider things that relax you. You can’t bring a candle, but you can bring small vials of essential oils, and scents like lavender can help relax you, while even supporting your mental well-being. Massage oils into your feet, temples, and your wrists to get it into your body, and rub some on your hands and inhale the aroma from time to time. This is a natural way to keep yourself mentally calm. Take Time for You Before and After This is perhaps the most important part: take some time alone before, after, and even during your trip if you can. Find an hour when little is going on or you have a break between meetings and take a nap, do some yoga, or even just go for a walk. Many hotels have gyms where you can work out, and they are usually not crowded during the day. Before you travel, take half a day and do something for yourself. Get a massage, spend some time alone reading, but try to charge your batteries for the social interactions you know are coming. When you get home, do the same thing. This may require scheduling your flights differently or modifying your work schedule. Do it. It’s important. Business travel does not have to be a nightmare for introverts, and can even be enjoyable with the right planning, the right gear, and by taking some time for yourself. Titration Curves Online Physics Tutors Tutorpace

Titration Curves Online Physics Tutors Tutorpace Titration is a chemistry laboratory method useful for finding the concentration of the unknown acid or unknown base. The experiment is properly analyzed in the form of graphs, and such graphs are known as titration curves. For an acid-base reaction, titration curves are graphed by taking the volume of the titrant (usually the base) on the X-axis and the pH of the solution on the Y-axis. These titration curves help us estimate the equivalence point which is the point where all of the acid has been neutralized by the titrant. Equivalence point is the point where just an enough base is added to get the acid neutralized. The equivalence point for a strong acid-strong base reaction is at pH= 7. Example 2: Graph the titration curve of a weak acid added to a strong base. When a weak acid is added to a strong base, half-equivalence point is attained, where just an enough base is added for half acid to be converted to conjugate base. The equivalence point is later attained at pH greater than 7. So the equivalence point for a weak acid-strong base is at pH higher than 7.

Check out Shredaholic.coms tips here: 1. Know your mentors Its important to have heroes, and if you have heroes, then you should be copying them. Do what they do, and see if you can do it a little bit better. Learn to become a total sponge for information and especially for sounds. Study every note, try to stay away from tabs as much as possible, and work to develop your own style based on what you have learned from the greats. Basically, they can give you the skeleton, and you can put the skin on it. 2. Your own style By nurturing your own sense of musical self, it makes the trip a lot easier. This way you can learn to do things your way, which is not a bad thing at all. You’ll develop your own tricks, learn new ways of producing notes, develop your own takes on technique, learn to express yourself better, and finding your own voice makes practicing a lot more fun. 3. The knowledge of practice could be its own college course â€" become a student of it! Practice is very important, but knowing how, what and when to practice is a big piece of the puzzle. There is almost an artistic science to training to learn how to shred guitar.   Instead of just going in blind, take a break and really think about what you could do to make real progress. A lot of people say “how am I supposed to know that?”, but if you really just let the ideas flow into your mind, you’ll get it, and here’s how… 4. The game plan You’ve got to have a game plan and you’ve got to stick to it. Define on a piece of paper what it is that you wish to accomplish, and there is your blue print. Now you can develop a sub-plan with specific actions, like what you need to work on in terms of picking, or left hand strength, or arpeggios, chords, theory â€" whatever! Take one of those things, whether it be a mental problem or a physical issue that you need to resolve, and find a couple of mental or physical exercises to focus on. Focus is key, because you’ve got to stick it out with your sweeps, tapping, and general training. 5. Listen to ALL types of music This is one of the biggest disciplinary problems that people have when learning how to shred guitar. Suck it up and listen to music from the farthest reaches of the universe, because when you do so â€" you start to absorb the vibrations, and then your body kind of aligns with the time signatures, rhythms, accents, nuances, and techniques. It can take some time, but over time â€" you become a very free player, and it doesn’t matter what your genre of choice is, you will be a more creative player. Remember, learning how to shred guitar isn’t just about playing fast, its also about becoming virtuosic, and developing killer licks. Keep practicing, and before you know it, youll become the guitar master we know you can be.   What other tips are important to consider before learning to shred? Leave a comment below! Learning Different Chinese Languages

Learning Different Chinese Languages Why Should You Learn the Different Chinese Languages? However, Chinese isn't even a single language but rather a number of related languages that belong to the Sino Tibetan language family. This means that you can't actually learn Chinese but you can learn one of the Chinese languages. In fact, there are different languages spoken in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and the Sichuan Province. There are plenty of different Chinese languages, dialects, and regional variants. For example, in Taiwan, Min Chinese and Hakka are spoken. These two languages, neither of which are official languages, are hugely important where they’re spoken.A survey reveals that 15% of the Hakka community can’t speak the Hakka language and 24% of Taiwa nese people under 30 only use Mandarin in their daily lives.
