Criss Cross Method - How it WorksWhen it comes to chemistry, most of us are familiar with the Criss Cross Method. What we don't know, however, is the strength and flexibility of this method. While the Criss Cross Method doesn't refer to anything in particular, it can be attributed to an informal experiment performed by Dr. E. R. Criss. From that point, the method has been implemented and adopted by a lot of research laboratories all over the world.Many students nowadays might not be aware of the method but those who are should be acquainted with it before moving ahead. Students can utilize the Criss Cross Method by basing their experiments on different chemicals and substances that exist today.As mentioned earlier, Criss uses four general terms in describing the relationships between these chemicals and substances. The first term is the single point of contact. The second is the compound. The third term is the double point of concentration and the last is the triple point of concentr ation.In the single point of contact, there is one chemical that is always present. For example, ammonia, ammonia gas, glycerol, glycerin, etc. A similar term is the 'Equilibrium Point'. This term is different from the equilibrium of temperature and pressure, which describes the ideal case of the system.There are many other terms that can describe the same chemical property. These can include the rheological property of viscosity and also the thermal conductivity of the substance. All of these are terms that describe the chemical properties that determine the location of the two chemicals.The compound is exactly what it sounds like. In Criss Cross, these are substances that have the capacity to undergo changes in molecular size, such as water and ammonia. The compounds are actually particles that have a very small amount of volume and they can be found in food items or in the atmosphere. They have specific mass, which means that they possess specific gravitational pull.The third ter m is the double point. This refers to the point at which the concentrations of two substances reach a maximum point. The second point is the triple point where both substances have reached an equilibrium value.The Criss Cross Method can be used to study compounds such as glucose, ethanol, carbon dioxide, glucose polymer, etc. Although these substances have a similar chemical formula, they are usually not solids. They tend to form as mixtures and liquids due to their presence in biological systems.

This is when a phonetic change happens to a consonant and people start pronouncing certain groups of consonants in a different way.The first of these consonant changes took plac e in the 1st century. This language hasn’t been spoken since the 4th century.Anglo-Frisian, Germano-Dutch, Low German, Dutch, Flemish, High German, Luxembourgish, Moselle Franconian, and Upper German are part of the West Germanic languages.Icelandic, Norwegian, Faroese, Danish, and Swedish are the North Germanic languages.Nowadays, the Germanic languages include English, German, Dutch, the Frisian and Upper Saxon dialects spoken in the Netherlands and Germany, Luxembourgian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, and Faroese.Afrikaans, which i s spoken in South Africa and Namibia, is also a Germanic language.  Pennsylvania Dutch is a dialect of German spoken in the United States predominately in Amish communities.Old High German (Althochdeutsch) between 750 and 1050The second consonant mutation took place between the 4th and 8th centuries. This led to a phonetic consonant shift across all of Old High German’s vocabulary.The consonant changes in Germanic languages were explained by Grimm’s Law. This is named after Jacob Grimm, the German philologist and one half of the Brothers Grimm who are most famous for their fairy tales like Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel.The linguist Karl Verner later expanded on Grimm's Law and better explained a few of the elements of these consonant shifts. This explanation is called Verner’s Law. It states  that plosive consonants become fricative consonants, thereby changing the pronunciation of a large number of words in the language.While the history of the German language began thousa nds of years ago, the word German wasn't documented until  786.Throughout the Middle Ages, there wasn’t an established writing system for German. In fact, the Old Saxon and Low Saxon spoken in the north of Germany did. This West Germanic language spoken between the 9th and 12th centuries, along with Frisian and Old English, would also contribute to Modern English.Middle Low German was spoken between around 1100 and 1500 along the coasts of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. We know it was written but there isn’t official proof. Middle Low German is the ancestor of Modern Low German.Standard German (Hochdeutsch)Protestantism would lead to Standard German being used in schools and help create a German-speaking population in the north of Germany.Between 1520 and 1535, Martin Luther translated the Old and New Testaments into German (is he one of our top 10 famous Germans?). Especially when it comes to introverts, a busy work schedule can be challenging enough without adding travel into the mix. However, being an introvert does not mean you can’t do certain things and even enjoy them. It simply means that you need to approach them differently. For instance, airports and airplanes can be very crowded spaces, and even just the thought of driving somewhere unfamiliar is enough to get the heart racing. It is important that you plan for what you need to survive and even make your trip enjoyable. One of the keys is to communicate clearly to your employer how travel makes you feel and what you need to be successful. For air travel specifically, you might need to travel to your destination a day early to acclimate, or fly business class rather than coach to give yourself the space you need (you can even offer to pay for the upgrade yourself if need be). Plan activities for yourself on the trip, and try to get some time alone if possible. Besides communicating well, here are a few simple steps you can take to survive and enjoy business travel as an introvert. Get the Right Gear When it comes to flying, especially a long flight, having the right gear can make all of the difference. If you are traveling across the country or internationally, you will need to be prepared. Frequent business travelers carry a lot of the same items with them every single time, and there are some essentials you simply can’t do without. A neck pillow: It may seem silly, but the pillows they have on the plane are nearly useless, besides the germs they might carry. Get your own travel neck pillow to keep yourself comfortable when you fall asleep. An empty water bottle: No, you can’t bring a full one through security, but an empty one is fine, and many airports have water bottle filling stations at their water fountains. This a good way to stay hydrated, but not too hydrated (airplane bathrooms are often another introvert nightmare). Headphones: Yes, you will need to bring your own entertainment unless you want to pay for movies on the plane, or be stuck watching whatever they are showing. Corded ones are the best, as you don’t need to recharge them (meaning you also don’t need to carry an extra cord). Noise cancelling ones will work best to shut out the airplane world that can be so overwhelming. Backup power supply: This is just in case your laptop, tablet, or phone needs some extra juice while you are on the plane. Sleeping mask/sleep aids: Want to sleep on the flight? You may need a sleep aid, and even a sleeping mask to block out the ambient light, even on a night flight. You may also want a blanket in case you tend to get cold. The more gear you have of your own, the less reliant you are on the airline to provide you with the things you need, or even worse, having to buy them in the airport, which is always expensive. If you travel often for work, have a “go” bag where you keep all of your travel needs in one place. You can then just literally grab it and go. Get Your Mind in the Right Place One of the main obstacles as an introvert is getting your mind right when you are headed into a potentially stressful situation. Anxiety can cause physical symptoms, making your flight and travel even harder to endure. One way to do this is to put your extrovert face on. This is the one introverts use when they have to deal with customers or coworkers. Often your voice gets louder, you will say things you would not normally say, and you’ll also seem more extraverted than you actually are. How to do this varies by person, but often a moment of meditation or even just some deep breathing will help. Also, consider things that relax you. You can’t bring a candle, but you can bring small vials of essential oils, and scents like lavender can help relax you, while even supporting your mental well-being. Massage oils into your feet, temples, and your wrists to get it into your body, and rub some on your hands and inhale the aroma from time to time. This is a natural way to keep yourself mentally calm. Take Time for You Before and After This is perhaps the most important part: take some time alone before, after, and even during your trip if you can. Find an hour when little is going on or you have a break between meetings and take a nap, do some yoga, or even just go for a walk. Many hotels have gyms where you can work out, and they are usually not crowded during the day. Before you travel, take half a day and do something for yourself. Get a massage, spend some time alone reading, but try to charge your batteries for the social interactions you know are coming. When you get home, do the same thing. This may require scheduling your flights differently or modifying your work schedule. Do it. It’s important. Business travel does not have to be a nightmare for introverts, and can even be enjoyable with the right planning, the right gear, and by taking some time for yourself. Matching Learning Styles to Study Tools As your child matures into an independent student, he or she will continue to refine those all-important study skills. Throughout school, students employ a variety of tools when studying, however, what works for one student may not for another. Help your child enhance his or her study sessions through the use of the right tools for his or her learning style. There are many different types of learning styles, but one common way to categorize learning preference is through the senses: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. Here are descriptions of each and the types of tools or devices that may aid such learners in their study sessions. Visual learners generally like to see or read what they learn. Students who learn visually often take detailed notes, watch people intently when they are speaking, have vivid imaginations and are good at remembering places or people. They also tend to understand concepts better when a teacher writes them on the board or draws them out. Study tools for visual learners: Visual aids, such as diagrams, pictures, maps, drawings and charts Flash cards and other visual memory devices A blank notebook or blank paper for drawing out ideas and concepts visually (in order to aid in the students comprehension) Written directions for assignments and projects To-do lists Day planners in which to record assignments, appointments and other tasks White boards Auditory learners learn best by listening and verbalizing concepts aloud. In class, these students may not necessarily need to watch the teacher to comprehend his or her lessons or lectures, provided the subject matter is being discussed in sufficient detail. They prefer to study by reading aloud and talking to themselves and they may be good at remembering the information they hear. Classroom lectures are a comfortable form of learning for these students and many auditory learners ask a lot of questions to reinforce their understanding of things. Study tools for auditory learners: Tape recorders for classroom lectures Handheld dictation machines to record and play back concepts and ideas Mnemonic devices to help with memorizing facts and information Audio books Study groups Text to speech software, such as NaturalReader (naturalreaders.com) Kinesthetic learners like to be active participants in the learning process, whether through hands-on activity or some other active endeavor. Such students learn best by doing and enjoy manipulating materials and objects as part of the learning process. In the classroom, these students may need to stand, move around or doodle while listening to lectures. Long periods of reading may make them fidgety and/or cause them to lose focus. Study tools for kinesthetic learners: Note taking Highlighters to highlight while reading or reviewing Stress ball or other ball (tennis ball or baseball) to play with while studying Interactive tools tied to studying, such as Quizlet, an online study software or Google SketchUp, a drawing and 3D modeling tool Standing desk Stationary bike or treadmill (to use while reading) Remember that a student might prefer a certain learning style for one task or subject and another style for a different task. Also, tools that work for one type of learner may also work well for another type, too. Its always good practice to try out different study approaches and tools and talk with your childs teachers for additional ideas and suggestions. Encourage your child to explore his or her own learning preferences through the use of different tools and techniques so that he or she make the most of every class and study session.
